Get Away Weekend @ Motutapu Island! :D

For those that don't know - Motutapu Island is not some kind of tropical island for tourists, far from it. It's near empty of civilisation. There's no rodents or pests...
This
is
an
island

environmental
restoration
projects
happens
and comes to life.

okay it's not the first time i've been to Motutapu but im excited all the same. (Especially since i'll be staying overnight!! XD) I use to be one of the leaders of a club called "Interact" (smaller branch of the Rotaract Club) in college where I had to lead a group of youths - called "Interacters" - for tree planting events to Motutapu. Last time i was here it was like 2009 -coming back brings back memories of my college years whenever i see this beautiful island. (Im feeling old yeshh.... btw this is random, but i had my first experience of riding on the back of a truck on one of the Womble trips back then!! XD)

So. Some of my friends and I will be staying overnight on saturday... (hopefully in cabins...not dormitries). I keep imagining i'll be in some large wooden hut thing - where the walls and ceiling are made entirely of wooden logs. And inside there will be like a fireplace... a large rug and sofa... people around me will be chatting but i'll be lying on a big beanie near the fireplace sipping hot chocolate (or mocha)...while outside snow will be falling..(?!!)... feeling relaxed and happy. :)
....omg that will be a dream... Snowing will never happen where i live! (in aux, we get HAIL. LAME.>_<) Gonna be planting trees on both sat and sunday i think... Just hope it doesn't rain... but if it does, then BRING IT ON!!! >:D

Update after the trip:
- It rained. T.T
- My fantasy cabin wasn't so far from reality after all! We did sleep in a place that wasn't a dormitry. There was a small fire place, there were sofas.. instead of snowing, it was raining... and i did sip hot chocolate that night. :D
- Planted trees on sunday. Spent the whole of saturday tramping ( in the rain, to the top of Rangitoto summit and to Motutapu Island - they're kinda joined together) and exploring!! (bomb shelters and journeyed through the underground tunnels...like rats lol) The ceiling of the tunnels were around 1m high and long... claustrophobic much? :p
- Nacho's for dindins. Played mafia= it's awesome when you play it with many ppl. Some were really good actors... lol @Ryan: in the first round "Believe me, im a citizen" - we questioned him several times and he kept saying "im a citizen, im a citizen"... when in fact he turned out to be MAFIA. Second round of the game, he got questioned again and this time he defended himself by saying "believe me,, im not mafia im not mafia" Lolllllll. XD A cute kid joined us in the Mafia game. The reaction the kid made when his father approached him in the middle of the game saying "It's 8:40pm now, bedtime.." was so cute. (His character eventually got killed off, and he went off to bed not too late XD)
- The deck outside the cabin had an amazing view! My friends and i sat outside to watch the final moments of the sunset... :) Also, the water on the beach wasn't even 10m away from the where we slept... NOT SCARY coz the beach was too beautiful to be scared of a random tsunami hitting us lol. :P
- Will post up the Rotaract trip photos soon... (along with the rest of the other photos taken earlier this year). :))

NZFF2011: Arrietty
So excited to see that a Studio Ghibli film has been featured in the New Zealand International Film Festival this year...
Arrietty - like all Ghibli films - has beautiful animation (i.e the scene where Sho was being shown the doll house - the objects were painted looked almost real) and the soundtrack was great! (I love Arrietty's theme song). =D Story wise, i thought it was lacking depth and characterisation of characters other than Arrietty (the "relationship" between Sho and Arrietty didn't felt real/too short)... So. this film didn't touch me emotionally as well as previous Ghibli films.. Teeny bit disappointed...BUT going to watch it on the big screen (...at the Civic centre. wow!) made up for it. :D

Sem 2 2011: I really really REALLY hate morning classes!!!
Just random notes on the first weeks of sem 2.
Monday
~One look at my ftvms202 lecturer and ive got a flashback of that guy who did the Action films first lect last sem... (i ditched Action films after i saw how boring the lecturor was)...that was coz it WAS him. Mr Zhou. Crap. One 2hour lecture with a guy with an semi-strong chinese accent...(some of the words he was saying ie. "World films" - i thought was "ward" or "word" films. "Dilemma" was pronounced - "DIL-a-ma"...) Lets not forget his monotonous voice. On the positive side- i recognized some films that i may need to watch for the course = KUNGFU PANDA!!!!! KILL BILL!!!!!! Ring (jap version. yuss finally a scary movie!!! YAYYY!!!:D)
~ Watched "My Darling Clementine" directed by John Ford (1946) - for an old black&white Western film i actually liked it! :P
Tuesday
~Carpoolin'- not only can i get to sleep 20mins longer today, the car comes by my house so i don't have to walk to the bustop in the freezing mornings. YAYYYYYYYYY~~~~~~~~~~~~!!!!!!! ^o^
~Psych201: There was an intro lecture by the head of dept(?) and his speech was awesome. Totally got me interested into cognition psych. =d However this guy was only the course co-ordinator, and the lecturor for the first topic in psych201 wasn't him - it was a nice old guy who taught well and made things interesting enough...except he goes through the material soooo slow. Again, on the positive side - whatever he says in his lect will be in the exam. The less we learn (bad), the less we'll need to study! (good!!) >:D (Btw the handouts for his section looks like kiddy worksheets- simplified pages with lots of space and pictures lol!)
- Met back with an old pal Jess (from phil100) - we're both in psych 201 & 204 sweet. (Random: Russian hat! XD)
~ Borrowed some books at the library (im looking at my assignments already)... and took a nap haha.
~ Psych204 - The ppt slides have all the info we need seriously...
First Topic = Embarassment is an important emotion to humans in terms of regulating behaviour.

Wednesday
~ I had my first ever 8am class today. I woke up at like 5:50am... to turn off the alarm clock lol and slept some more. Thankfully dad took me and i arrived just in time for psych204.
By 9am i felt like a total zombie! Awake? Yes. Listening to lect? Yes. Mind actually focusing on material? Nada. I hate morning classes.
(For both psychs, I saw that i had a LOT of psych reading from textbook to do! If the psych readings don't kill me, the morning classes will.)
~ Caught up on some much needed sleep in the library... half an hour nap did me some good zzz...
~ Lunch at Spicers Restaurant. Had fried chicken w/udon. I was expecting the udon to be served in soup (traditional way) but it was served cold on a dish. The pieces of fried chicken on top of the udon was absolutely delicious.
~ Some clubs i've joined:
Fencing Club (yes finally!), the random "Random Acts on Campus" (i love it haha) and Dessert club (i got dragged into this T.T). *Arts Student Association is a club i still need to join! :)
Thursday
~ Psych201 & 204 - ... nap time afterwards.
~ Had stall duty for 2 and a half hours yikes. Then a committee meeting followed. Need to find a suitable venue for the HKSS welcoming party...(I didn't know it costs to hire a room in OGG.!D:)
~ This Mid Winter Rave event... did i really want to go? I felt so tired all week eh... In the end i did, hung for like an hour or so, dancing with my jacket and unibag on (lol). I got glow in the dark stars painted on my cheeks hehe. (Note to self: Learn to shuffle.:))

- yus this class is every 2 weeks!! :D The first lab was interesting too- we had to analyse how men/women/both genders behave when they are romantically interested to another person.
